Buying/Selling Tips

sellBUYING:

The first thing is “know who you are getting your information from”. A good presale password site is your first and best resource to getting better seats. It took me a full year of joining fanclub sites, radio station alert lists, venue alert lists, and promoter lists to feel comfortable enough to start this site. I get the info straight from the source.  I literally go through nearly a hundred emails and search dozens of alternative ticketing outlets every day to bring you passwords and onsales.

I feel there are only two presale  password sites out there who could produce a complete post every day without poaching other presale password sites. Getpresales.com and presaletoday.com are those sites.

It’s my business to know the competition and I have noticed that every other site I’m aware of gets most of their passwords from presaletoday.com. Then when getpresales.com posts it’s list, they get the rest from here. Sometimes I post a phony password at 8am just to see if these others guys fall for it. Sure enough they all take the bait and post the phony password on their site. Except for presaletoday of course. Then I correct the password before the presale starts.

I guess what I’m saying is that I would prefer you get your information from someone who works hard to bring you that information and not from some hack trying to poach info to make a few bucks.

Now let me get off my soapbox and get down to getting you better seats.

The best thing to do is PRACTICE. Go to the buy page of any presale/onsale that is getting ready to start now. Don’t refresh (F5 key on Internet Explorer) too often. Ticketmaster will lock you out for a minute or so if you refresh more than 3 or 4 times in 10 seconds or so.
Make a note of when the presale opens in relation to when your clock says it was supposed to open. This way you can refresh your page at the precise monent the onsale or presale you really want opens. Many people use ticket buying software. You can download this for free at
http://broker20.com. If you can’t download software at work, you should use two windows to find your tickets. Go to the buy screen of the show want. Copy the url and paste it in a second window.
Change the url from “.com” to “.ca” in the second window. Each window will now have the same page except one will be a Ticketmaster US page and the other is Ticketmaster Canada. What this does is allow you to hold tickets in the first window while trying to do better in the second window. When you practice, pay attention to how long Ticketmaster gives you at each step before your tickets are released. This will allow you to take as much time as possible looking to upgrade in the second window.
- The captcha screen on ticketmaster says you have to type two words to continue. Most times you only have to type one. Pick the longest word, or the word that is not in bold type.
- Ticketmaster TIP: Don’t assume your first pull will return the best tickets available. Credit card requests get denied, people get kicked offline before they complete their order, better tickets are released later in the presale, or time runs out on the checkout page and tickets are released. Whatever the reason, if the presale has just started and your search comes back with tickets you’re not happy with, Click “back” 3 times and search again. You may
have to do this many times. Don’t do it more than 15 or so times as Ticketmaster will lock you out for 24 hours.

-Remember to go on ticketmaster or other ticketing service at the specified time based on the timezone the venue is in, and not the timezone you are in.
-TIP: If you didn’t get tickets to the NFL game you wanted, try going on TM starting two days before the game. This is when the away team comes into town. They sometimes GIVE BACK tickets they dont use. Those tickets are then placed on TicketMaster.

SUPER BOWL TICKETS
This drawing, which is free to enter, is the only way the NFL distributes Super Bowl tickets to the general public. You need to send a written request including your name, address, and phone number via registered or certified mail to:
Super Bowl Random Drawing
PO Box 49140
Strongsville, OH 44149-0140

The NFL only accepts these requests between Feb. 1 and June 1 of the year preceding the game you would like to see, so advance planning is critical. If your request is chosen, you’ll be notified around October.

“this page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you wish to continue?”
For those of you who were annoyed by this pop-up more than I, you probably already know the fix. For those of you who don’t, please read on.
WHEN THERE IS A BIG CONCERT THAT WILL HAVE LOTS OF TRAFFIC, WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS ON TICKETMASTER..INSTEAD OF TICKETS COMING UP RIGHT AWAY, THERE MAY BE A 2-10 MINUTE WAIT AND WE HAVE TO WATCH THAT PROGRESS BAR SCROLL PAST…IT FLASHES PAST A COUPLE TIMES AND THEN IT REFRESHES ITSELF..
If you have the updated version of Internet Explorer, you kmow what happens next..You get a dialog box that pops up saying. “this page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you wish to continue? YES or NO”..
What a pain in the ass it can be when you have 6 windows open…I have been getting it for a long time, but it never really bothered me enough to make it stop..
Here is the fix….

1) In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button.
2) Click Internet Options.
3) Click the Security tab.
4) Click the Custom Level button.
5) Scroll to the “mixed content” setting in the “MISCELLANEOUS” section.
6) Click Enable.
7) Click OK in the Security Settings dialog box, and then click OK to exit Internet Options.
 Note
After allowing mixed content, you will see webpages with both HTTPS and non-HTTPS content, but Internet Explorer will not show the lock icon.

Why are the first 5 or 10 rows gone before the presale even starts??
The simple answer is Brokers and Charities…..
There are brokers with more money than I that get tickets from the venue or promoter before the presale begins..
Also, charities are given tickets up close to make money for their causes.
If you go to
www.tickets-for-charity.com you will see that they have the
first 15 rows..

Fan Clubs

Sometimes fanclubs charge you to join, but they give you first access to tickets. These fanclubs generate unique, single use passwords for their paying fanclub members. In this case you would have to pay for a first shot at tickets.
Sometimes this will be a good deal, sometimes it won’t. Please read all terms before paying to join any of the fanclubs below.

Use the url above as a base. Then after the “=”, insert a number from below. For example, if you wanted 311, you would put “13″ after the equals sign.

Most bands’ Artist Arena pages are free, but some have been making their Arist Arena pages a pay site..

There are not many great names below, but I use Artist Arena when a band below is on tour with a big name band.
For instance, Hinder isn’t a huge draw by themselves, but put them on the bill with Motley Crue and you’ve got yourself valuable pit tickets depending on the venue.

(to get username and password, click ‘register’ on the site and enter ONLY your email address)
**Many times the username is the band name and the password is ‘tickets’**
Artist Arena usually ships tickets 2-3 weeks before the show. Make sure potential buyers know this going in.

SELLING:
If you wish to sell on stubhub, keep some things in mind.
1.Stubhub takes a total of 15% of your sale price. To decide whether you will attempt to buy tickets for a particular event, you will want to look at how tickets in comparable cities are selling to see if they are going for 70% more than the total price you will pay through ticketmaster.
2. Don’t back yourself into a corner. Do not buy tickets for an event that is less than three weeks away.
3. Don’t plan on getting your money back right away. I make between $20-$150 per pair of tickets I sell on Stubhub, however the tickets may be on there for a month. In addition, stub hub will not pay you until after a week or so AFTER you send them to the buyer. If you need money back right away, I suggest ebay. You will make more on stubhub, but you will have to wait.
4. This is a rule that has cost me a few bucks, but it’s saved me much more. I never buy events in small towns..I never buy tickets to an event that is all General Admission unless I am confident it will sell out in 10 minutes or so….
RULES 5 thru 100: NEVER BUY CRAP SEATS!!!!!!…
If people are going to pay a premium, they are not going to do it for section 207 row J…Just because you have purchased tickets at a presale does not mean you purchased gold at $1 and ounce..In an amphitheatre situation, I only buy PIT or the first 10 rows behind PIT (unless I know it will be an instant sell out)…Never buy anything in V or X in the 100’s or anything in the 200’s unless it’s an “Elvis, Back From the Dead” concert.
In arena situations, I only get first 15 rows of floor or first 10 rows of the sections right next to the stage unless using my two screen method, you find that the show has sold out instantly.
In theatre situations, I only get first 10 rows of ORCHESTRA (row K as most theatres don’t have a row “i”) or the front row of MEZ or BALCONY… Unless the show is an instant sellout, I stick to those parameters and never stray. If you have done your homework and gotten great seats, you will not lose money…
________________________________________________________
I put my tickets on stubhub AND Ebay the second I buy them unless it’s fanclub tickets. In this case, don’t list them on ebay until they are available to non-fanclub members.
You are not committed to stubhub unless you confirm that you have the tickets when they sell. So if your tickets sell on ebay and stubhub at the same time, don’t worry..(But don’t let it happen it too much either)
The HOTTEST time for selling tickets is between the time they go on presale and 8 hours after they go onsale to the public..That 2 or 3 day window is when I sell 80% of my tickets. That is when you want them visible to others. One POINT ABOUT LISTING ON EBAY.. When you list on ebay, you want to sell using “buy it now”. Auctions are too labor intensive and the buyer does not have to pay when they win. If you must list it auction style, then set the auction to end at a time when the most people are available to be online(6:30 pm – 7:30PM local venue time)… So start your auction at this time. Even if you have a buy it now (which I recommend) try to have it end at this time.
If you list your buy it now with a “best offer” option, I suggest not allowing your listing to automatically end when a buyer enters an acceptable amount. Again, the buyer is not required to pay immediately and you may get burned. If you receive an acceptable offer, write back to the potential buyer and tell them that you will lower your best offer amount to their offer amount and tell them when you plan on doing this and why you are doing this.
This will force the buyer to pay immediately if you have the “immediate payment required” option activated.
________________________________________________________

NEVER UNDERCUT!!

Undercutting the the practice of placing your tickets for sale a few dollars less than the cheapest seats regardless of where your tickets are in the venue.
If you are the first person posting tickets, look at some prices from other venues and price accordingly. If others have posted tickets for your show, find some tickets in your general area of the venue. Get an average, then price your tickets slightly higher or lower depending on if your tickets are better or worse than the others. If your tickets are on the floor, row 28, DONT price them lower than someone who has center floor row 39 just to make a quick sale.
Undercutting is not only rude, you are hurting yourself and the entire secondary market industry.

Splitting up PDF ticketfast tickets:
The problem of not being able to split up ticketfast tickets has nailed me from time to time. You have 4 ticketfast tickets for an event 2 days away and you need to get them in ticketfast form..Now how are you going to sell them 2 at a time??
I have found a free program that splits the tickets without leaving watermarks.
Your first option should be to ship ticketfast tickets. If that is not an option, split them and email them individually.
