Ipad 3 Rumors, News, Information.

Apple’s special media event—one that many believe to be for the next-generation iPad—is now mere days away. By this time next week, we’ll know once and for all how many of those pesky pre-event rumors were true and which ones were made up by “optimistic” sources. Because there are so many elements to consider for the as-yet-unannounced iPad, which is colloquially being referred to as the “iPad 3,” we thought we’d round them up in one spot to talk about what seems most plausible.
-”Retina” display
The rumor that has probably received the most coverage and had the highest number of “confirmations” across reliable publications has been the one that states the iPad 3 will have a high-resolution “retina” display similar to the one in the iPhone 4 and 4S. An iPad with a retina display has actually been rumored since before the iPad 2 was introduced a year ago, and some observers were disappointed when the iPad 2 appeared with the same resolution as its predecessor. Numerous sources—and evidence found within the iOS SDK itself—hint that the iPad is destined to join the “retina” display clique this time around, though. What does that mean for prospective iPad 3 buyers? The original and second-generation iPads both had a screen resolution of 768×1024, but all signs point to the iPad 3′s resolution being 1536×2048—double the number of pixels in both directions for a pixel density of 260ppi. As we wrote last year, this pixel density isn’t exactly the same as the iPhone 4, which sits at 326ppi, but it’s close
enough to look nearly as sharp to the naked eye.
-Higher megapixel camera(s)
The camera rumors haven’t been quite as prolific as those of the “retina” display, but a consensus is slowly building that the next-gen iPad will indeed have a better camera or two. Rumors from the beginning of the year claimed the front- and rear-facing cameras would both get an upgrade, with a later rumor suggesting the rear-facing camera might go up to 8 megapixels. (It’s worth noting that the camera currently in the iPhone 4S is also 8 megapixels.) We don’t know a lot of people who use their iPads for photography à la the iPhone 4S, but perhaps that’s because the iPad 2′s camera isn’t much to write home about. When we reviewed the device last year, we were left unimpressed, but perhaps Apple is looking to expand people’s use of the front- and rear-facing cameras for things like FaceTime and other casual camera use. We would hardly be surprised to see some kind of camera bump this year, even if only to help keep the iPad’s specs from getting too stale.
-Processors
For many Ars readers, the iPad 3′s rumored processor bump is one of the more interesting aspects of the new device. The processor is also one of the more talked-about elements while also being one of the most inconsistent. Earlier rumors suggested Apple might move to a quad-core design for its next-gen mobile processor—rumors that were bolstered by evidence found within Apple’s Xcode late last year. Newer reports, however, indicated that the processor might retain the same dual-core processor as the one in the iPad 2 with improved Imagination Technologies GPU cores, and the rumored “A5X” could fit that description. As Chris Foresman wrote last month of the A5X: “The A5 is no slouch in general processing, but improved graphics processing would be especially useful if the iPad 3 contains a 2048×1536 pixel ‘Retina’ display.”
Even newer reports, however, suggested that Apple might be developing an improved, dual-core “A5X” professor alongside a quad-core A6 processor after all. Hints were buried within the developer previews of iOS 5.1 that Apple is working on both processors at the same time, indicating that it might have plans for a lower-powered iPad alongside a higher-end iPad 3. Or, the A5X could be destined for something else entire, like a revamp of the Apple TV.
-LTE
Up until now, the iPad has always come in WiFi-only and WiFi+3G flavors, but the latest rumors out of proven publications like Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal have pointed towards 4G/LTE support in the next-gen iPad. If true, it would make the iPad 3 the first of Apple’s mobile products to make use of these high-speed networks being built by Verizon and AT&T. We recently made case for why the iPhone, hasn’t gained LTE support. For one, LTE is currently largely limited to the US, and although Apple has made some exceptions to this policy, it generally frowns upon manufacturing too many variations of the same product for different markets. But the iPad may be different in this regard. Because it’s not a phone and therefore has a lower volume of sales (Apple sold 15.43 million iPads last quarter compared to 37.04 million iPhones), Apple can afford to take bigger US-centric risks like adding LTE support to the iPad.
And the timing makes sense: both AT&T and Verizon are vastly expanding their 4G networks this year, so extra-high-speed data should be easier for many Americans to access by year’s end. Packing LTE into the next generation of the iPad would begin to put more pressure on the two carriers’ 4G networks, but not iPhone-level pressure just yet.

Jack White Performs ‘Love Interruption’ and New Track ‘Sixteen Saltines’ on ‘SNL’

Well, that was a lot to digest, Jack White’s two-song performance as musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”

If it wasn’t his stunning black-and-white suit, it was the all-female six-piece band that backed him on “Love Interruption,” the first song that he played, so tight that you hope and pray that this will be his touring band (and that he’ll start a post-White Stripes duo project with Autolux drummer Carla Azar, whose phenomenal kit work was something to behold).

The performance illustrated why White is a man among boys in the world of rock music, assured in his own voice, in his entire aesthetic, dedicated to creating rock ‘n’ roll with (beautiful) guitars, bass, drum and whatever else strikes his fancy.

And if it wasn’t that first song, an urgent love ditty, it was the follow-up/shut-up explosion, “Sixteen Saltines,” a classic White rocker with a monster riff, booming drum-and-organ call-and-response, a floorful of guitar effects pedals, a weird psychedelic bridge and the kind of rock urgency that in 2012 few if any others can deliver. The song featured an entirely different band, with instrumentation including violin and mandolin — though they were easily buried beneath White’s guitar tantrum.

Frankie DiVita, radio personality for 96.7 KCAL Rocks, conducted an interview with DEF LEPPARD/ex-DIO guitarist Vivian Campbell at the 2012 NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention which took place January 19-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
When asked about DEF LEPPARD’s touring plans, Vivian said, “We’re gonna go out again this summer. We don’t know the exact details yet, but we’ll be out in America this summer.”In a recent interview with AOL’s Noisecreep, DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen offered a few more details of the band’s upcoming road activities. “We’re actually going to be back on tour around when the [film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical 'Rock Of Ages'] is out, and it would be a lot of fun to get some of the other bands featured in ‘Rock Of Ages’ out with us,” he said. “Nothing has been finalized yet, but apparently POISON will be joining us — at least according to [POISON singer] Bret Michaels, who has been telling everyone that they’ll be touring with us this year. [Laughs] We went out with POISON in 2009, and we all had so much fun. If it does end up happening like that, I would love for the third band to be someone like TWISTED SISTER, since they’re also in the new movie. I think that would make for a great lineup.”

With the first dates of John Mellencamp’s No Better Than This Tour getting underway this week and following the recent announcement of the tour’s second leg starting in February of 2011, comes notice of a third leg of dates next spring as well as two added shows in New York and Toronto in February. The newly announced string of No Better Than This tour dates will bring Mellencamp, his music and his band to Texas, the west coast, western Canada and circling back to the U.S. Midwest.

Presales will be held on Wed Oct 27th and Thur Oct 28th. We will have passwords here.

The tour, designed as a uniquely-formatted “evening with,” brings Mellencamp’s music to theater-sized venues, a rare opportunity to experience one of America’s most iconic songwriters and performers in an intimate setting, highlighting all phases of his artistry.

The tour will feature classic Mellencamp material associated with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee over the course of his 35-year-long career as well as the new music from No Better Than This.

Tickets purchased for the newly-announced U.S. dates include a digital download of No Better Than This. Details on how to redeem the album download will be sent via email a few days following ticket purchase. A tutorial outlining this process has been posted on Mellencamp.com.

As a reflection of the diversity of styles and material that have been a hallmark of Mellencamp’s eclectic career, the concerts are formatted into three segments. These showcase John Mellencamp in an acoustic context, fronting a small combo recalling blues/country and rockabilly roots, and with his full rock band.

Of special note is the fact that the tour’s “opening act,” is a documentary film by Kurt Markus entitled It’s About You. Shot on Super8 film, over the course of last year’s Bob Dylan-John Mellencamp-Willie Nelson tour of minor league baseball stadiums, it chronicles the creation of No Better Than This while serving as a cinematic ?think piece’ on the state of the country at the end of the first decade of the 21st Century. Prince announced at a press conference held this week at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem that he will return to the road in December 2010. The tour is dubbed “Welcome 2 America.”

Ticket onsale dates, presale dates and Cities have NOT been announced, but keep checking GETPRESALES.COM for all updates.

Prince will perform and serve as the master of ceremonies on the tour, which will include that petite sensation Janelle Monae and jazz songstress Cassandra Wilson, as well as Mint Condition and Esperanza Spalding.

“Bring your friends, bring your children,” Prince told the audience, according to Billboard. “And bring foot spray, because it’s going to be funky.”

“Come early, come often. I have a lot of hits… no two shows will be the same,” he teased. Squeal! Gasp! Prince has too many hits and I want to hear them all, from “Raspberry Beret” to “Kiss” to “Let’s Go Crazy to “Seven.”

According to Robert Larsen in his book, History of Rock and Roll, Prince is “one of the most talented and commercially successful pop musicians of the last 20 years”, producing ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career.

This discography excludes compilations of previously-released material. Prince has sold about 100 million records worldwide in his career.
