No dates, no times, not even a guarantee the shows will even happen, but VAN HALEN has announced a 2012 tour. If you ask me, I won’t believe it until I see it. While Sammy won Michael Anthony in the big Van Hagar breakup, Eddie managed to get David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, and his son Wolfgang together to form the 2012 version of Van Halen.
The news was broken with a simple tweet pointing you to a few video shorts on the Van Halen website. Eddie, Roth, and the official VH twitter all tweeted at around 3am est on the 26th. The video shorts all have a banner scrolling across the bottom stating “Van Halen on tour 2012. First tickets available January 10″. The video apparently features visuals of bandmembers performing a brand new song (from the yet-to-be-released track’s official video) set to the audio of several David Lee Roth-era VAN HALEN classics. As far as tickets, we’re not sure if the January 10th date is a presale (fanclub or otherwise) or if this will be a straight onsale. Let’s assume for the moment that it will be a fanclub presale that you will have to pay to join.There is also the possibility presales may happen before Jan 10.Please check back for details.
VAN HALEN’s new record deal with Interscope was finalized last month and marks the first time the band has recorded away from Warner Bros. Records, which signed the group in 1977. The new VAN HALEN album, its first with Roth since “1984″ was released on the last day of 1983, will reportedly come out in 2012, possibly in February. ALTER BRIDGE guitarist Mark Tremonti recently said in an interview that he had gotten an opportunity to hear new VAN HALEN music through his friendship with bassist Wolfgang Van Halen (guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s son), saying it sounded like “vintage VAN HALEN.”
UPDATE:
Van Halen have announced the first leg of their massive 2012 world tour. The run will kick off in Louisville, KY then eventually make two stops at Madison Square Garden and one stop at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center before wrapping up in New Orleans on June 26th. All of the veteran rock group’s newly announced shows can be found below. Their forthcoming twelfth studio album, A Different Kind of Truth, drops February 7th via Interscope Records. The LP’s first single should hit the web next week.

Dave Matthews Band said they were going to take the year off from touring, but nobody said the band wouldn’t be playing live.

It looks like DMB will stage four “mini-festivals” billed as the Dave Matthews Band Caravan this year, as announced on the band’s Warehouse fan site.

A statement from the band obtained by Billboard.biz says, “2011 is our 20th anniversary as a band and we want to celebrate by playing music together.  While we are still taking the year off from touring, we have decided to plan four multi-day, multi-artist music events that will take place this summer.  We will be sending out save the date emails and announcing more information soon but we wanted to share the news with our fans first.”

As reported on Billboard.biz last month, Dave Matthews Band will stage four regional destination festivals this summer under the Dave Matth Field, former site of the Atlantic City (New Jersey) Municipal Airport, the band announced this morning.

While DMB fans have known such an announcement was coming, they may be surprised at the size and scope of these events, as the the event is a full-blown festival, at least in terms of talent. In addition to DMB, the Atlantic City lineup includes David Gray, Ray LaMontagne, the Flaming Lips, O.A.R., Damian Marley, Bassnectar, Dr. Dog, Amos Lee, Thievery Corporation, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Warren Haynes Band, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Guster, Lotus, Rebelution, Fitz and the Tantrums, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lisa Hannigan, Punch Brothers, From Good Homes, Delta Spirit, Big Gigantic, Alberta Cross, Mariachi El Bronx, TR3, Vusi Mahlasela, the Budos Band and Bobby Long, and special performances by DMB members Carter Beauford and Stefan Lessard, plus a Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds acoustic set.  The festival weekend will also include a number of late-night shows at Atlantic City venues.

DMB is the top-grossing band in the world for the period 2000-2009 according to Billboard Boxscore, and grossed more than $62 million and drew more than a million fans last year, so taking a year off the road is no small matter. Dave Matthews vaguely alluded that DMB might jam together this year in an interview with Billboard last December. “Next year, although we’re not going to hop on the same train of buses and drive around North America, I have no doubt we’re going to get together, whether it’s in front of people or whether it’s in some room somewhere, and make music together, because this is my second family,” he said.
